Adjacent to Rampart High School, Rampart Park preserves abundant fossil trees in Upper Cretaceous to Paleocene sandstone in the the D1 sequence of the Denver Formation (Raynolds, 2003). None of the trees are in growth position. Most fossil logs trend in the nearly the same direction, preserving the route of the ancient stream beds that carried them.
