The purpose of the Paleotrails Project is to bring to life the fossils and geology of the Colorado Springs area. It is a joint project between volunteer paleontology researcher, Sharon Milito, the City of Colorado Springs and the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. All research has been approved by DMNS before submission to the City. Sharon has collaborated with local experts on this project, including geologist Dr. Ken Weissenburger.
Sharon is a fourth grade teacher in School District 11 in Colorado Springs. She has a BA in elementary education and a MA degree in Teaching Integrated Natural Science. She received the 2010 Excellence in She received basic and field certification in paleontology from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS) in 2006. She has been project paleontologist for the Paleotrails: Red Rock Canyon Project under principal investigator Dr. Ken Carpenter, supervised by Dr. Robert Raynolds, both of DMNS. She is principal investigator for the Paleotrails: Colorado Springs Project and project paleontologist for the Corral Bluffs Survey, under principal investigators Dr. Ian Miller and Dr. Kirk Johnson, of DMNS.
